Samsung Electronics is the world's largest technology company, and in the early years of consumer digital imaging it marketed a large range of digital compact cameras. A short-lived experiment with 'GX' DSLRs (essentially clones of then-contemporary Pentax models) was followed by the innovative 'NX' range of mirrorless APS-C format interchangeable lens models. There followed several years during which Samsung was among the most energetic and innovative manufacturers in the digital imaging market, which culminated in 2014 in the launch of the NX1 - one of the most technologically advanced digital cameras ever manufactured. In December 2015, barely a year after the NX1 was unveiled, Samsung announced that it was ceasing sales and marketing efforts for the NX brand - effectively exiting the consumer digital imaging market.
